I get a lot of photographers’ promotional emails. And I mean a lot. So when one of them breaks through the clutter – and my tendency to glance and delete — it seems worth sharing.

C. Taylor Crothers was lucky enough to shoot Pete Seeger’s 90th birthday celebration at Madison Square Garden. Man, would I have loved to have been there!

Instead, I get to live vicariously through a series of portraits he shot of some 40 of the musicians — a work he calls Clearwater Portraits, It includes the Birthday Boy himself, of course, but also Bruce Springsteen, Joan Baez, Arlo Guthrie, Richie Havens, Taj Mahal (one of my favorite shots in the collection) Bela Fleck (one of my favorite musicians) and a whole bunch of others.

Treat yourself. Go to his site and browse the stuff online, or download the PDF so you can have your very own version to keep.

Through his books and records, Pete Seeger was my teacher, and a huge influence when I was a kid learning to play guitar. His talent, tenacity and teachings have inspired three generations.

On the other hand, I’d never worked with Mr. Crothers, or even heard of him until I got his email. Clearly, the guy’s got some talent of his own.
