Seeing our client more clearly
Braille Institute does remarkable work. They help people with severe vision problems learn how to live a fulfilling, happy life in a world designed for fully-sighted people. It’s an important and valuable endeavor, the breadth of which wasn’t being conveyed well by their annual report to donors. They asked us to create a better one.
The organization is often misperceived as focusing only on blind people. In fact, a large percentage of those they help have degrees of vision loss. That perception prevents many people who need them from seeking their services. We wanted to address that as well.
What we did
Designing for supporters of Braille Institute is challenging, because many suffer vision loss themselves. So text has to be large, contrast high. We had to abandon a number of our own preconceptions about what “looks good” and focus on what works. The resulting report was energetic, colorful, and offered insights into the individuals who are involved as mentors, donors, teachers and volunteers.
Results
A strong, well-received, effective communication tool that helped with fundraising and generated excitement and confidence. So much so that the Institute asked us to create the graphics for their annual meeting, and to repeat the performance the following year.
