Posters as strong as the shows
Like many schools, Santa Monica High School (Samohi) has a theatre program. But unlike most, their productions tend to be top notch. With lots of kids whose parents are “in the industry”, the shows reflect both professionalism and talent. We felt the program’s promotions should reflect that level of production value as well.
What we did
Getting the word out was a task we took on with enthusiasm, designing a series of campaigns that changed public perception, and helped give the students a sense of pride in their school and their own work.
Happily, one of the posters was even featured in the curated collection “Presenting Shakespeare: 1100 Posters from Around the World” alongside selections from 54 other countries.
Results
Our campaigns filled seats, generated revenue and helped revive interest in the theatre program among both the students and the surrounding community. Schools are underfunded these days, especially the arts. But with a little help from volunteers like us, those critical programs can remain strong.
