Years ago, at the Aspen Design Conference, Milton Glaser told a group of us acolytes that people are usually good at either starting, working on or finishing a project. Some people are even good at two of those things, but almost nobody can do all three well.

Still, somehow, when we get an idea that inspires us, we grab our bungee cords, screw up our courage and jump off the cliff. It’s a classic leap of faith. And without it, nothing creative would ever happen. In fact, we’d probably never even pass a slow truck on a 2-lane highway. Sooner or later, we have to stamp on the accelerator and commit.

The always amazing Ze Frank has made a video about starting. It’s funny and inspiring. Thanks to my friend, the interior designer, photographer and poet Joe Terrell for sharing it.
